Air Service from Zurich to Begin May 25

With just about two months before the inaugural Edelweiss flight from Zurich to Tampa Bay, tourism officials from the area met with executives from the Swiss-based charter airline for a media/tour operator event last week in Switzerland.

Following their appearance at ITB in Berlin, representatives from VSPC—including Marion Wolf, Director of the Central European Office—Tampa Bay & Company and Tampa International Airport were on-hand to show their support for the direct service, which begins May 25. The contingent also met with Edelweiss officials to discuss continued co-operative marketing efforts.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome direct service from Zurich to Tampa Bay,” VSPC’s Executive Director DT Minich said. “In addition to the untapped Swiss market, the airport in Zurich is a hub for travelers departing from major metropolitan cities across the world.”

Edelweiss Air offers service from locales in Africa, Asia, Europe and throughout the Americas. The flight from Zurich to Tampa Bay will be offered once a week—on Fridays—with service ramping up to twice a week over the summer.

With reported wait times of several hours in major U.S. entry points like Washington DC and Miami, the ease of clearing Customs at Tampa International Airport is a big selling point for Edelweiss and potential patrons.

VSPC and Tampa Bay & Company will hold a joint reception at the airport on the day of the inaugural flight, officially welcoming guests to the area as they arrive.
