Tampa Bay Shines during National Tourism Week

A variety of performers—including a Dunedin bagpiper, belly dancers, and Columbia’s famed flamenco dancers—were on hand at Tampa Airport this week to celebrate tourism, but it was a step-dancing flamingo that stole the show, wowing hundreds of passengers heading to and from the trams on the landside terminal.

All the hoopla was the backdrop for Tuesday’s celebration of National Tourism Week, which drew partners from both sides of Tampa Bay to Tampa International Airport, with eager fans waving tourism signs, and plenty of applause. And according to VSPC’s Deputy Director David Downing, it was the perfect way to jump start one of the most important weeks around – National Tourism Week.

“With the world spotlight set to shine on our area this August during the RNC, this is a perfect time for the Tampa Bay Area to be underscoring the importance of our industry, and reminding residents of the many benefits we all enjoy thanks to our visitors,” said David Downing, Deputy Director of Visit St Pete/Clearwater.

The event took place under a massive banner announcing the area’s latest tourism triumph in air service: twice-weekly direct flights from Zurich which commence later this month.
